To Tip or Not to Tip!

Tipping in hotels has always been a topic of hot debate. Whether you are staying at a plush five-star establishment or an average three-star one, some people in the hotel deserve appreciation like the housekeeping staff who maintains the rooms. Tipping, basically, shows your appreciation towards the service offered and helps the attendants gain confidence and also acts as a source of perks. There is no right or wrong about the procedure of paying tips to the hotel staff even though it should be given in a sealed envelope. The amount to be paid should be commensurate with the kind of work done which again depends from region to region.

Tips to the housekeeper should ideally be paid on a daily basis because the same attendant may not be available throughout your stay. The amount if paid at the end of the stay might not get evenly distributed among everyone. If the person is unavailable leave the tip in an envelope preferably with the name written on top. However, not all hotels staff need to be tipped. Front desk clerks and the concierge need not be tipped but for the rest the additional money may be a part of the salary which they are likely to lose out.

In case you forget to tip a housekeeper or attendant while leaving you can always call up the concierge at the hotels in Bangalore and inform him about it. You can always send a cheque in that person’s name and inform the concierge. If you are short of change seek help from the front desk clerks at Hotel Hindusthan International who can provide you with the required cash. Tips should not always be provided only for exemplary service and behavior. Even if you face consistent rudeness from an attendant don’t forget to tip him or her. You can inform the concierge about the person’s behaviour and let them deal with it.
